Diana Sue Hewitt

Diana Sue Hewitt, 69, of Topeka, passed away on February 16, 2021 at Stormont Vail Hospital.

She was born on August 8, 1951 to Billy and Frances (Snyder) Smith at Bay City, TX.

In her younger years, Diana worked at Collins Drive-In as a Car Hop. She was very proud of that job and talked about it all the time.
Diana worked for the State of Kansas at the Department of Revenue where she became a supervisor, and later retired. After retirement, she started working for KDOT for 10 years, before retiring for a second time. All together she worked for the State of Kansas for over 30 years.

After her years put in with the State of Kansas, she started her dream job of substitute teaching for District 501 and the Catholic Schools of Topeka.

She graduated with honors from Allen County Community College with her Associates Degree of Science. She was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Sorority.

Diana was a woman of faith all of her life, including: Youth Leader at the Oakland Church of the Nazarene, the leader of the Women of Grace Bible Study at Sacred Heart/ St. Joseph Parish. She was an avid volunteer for all church events, especially Germanfest. Diana also sang in the church choir.

She was the anchor to her whole family. Diana was a mother to all she met and even to those she did not know.

She enjoyed riding her bike and walking. She would always be at her grandchildren's school event and sporting events. She enjoyed sewing. Once COVID started, needs became known and she started making hundreds of masks and donating them to hospitals around Kansas, Texas, and Michigan.

Diana is survived by loving Husband, Al; Children, Corey (Autumn) McLaughlin, Brad (Leila) Hewitt, Ryan McLaughlin, Cindi (Ted) Valdivia, Gerald (Parrish) McLaughlin Jr., Michal (John) Hawkins, Lucas Hewitt, Kelli (Sam) Hernandez; Siblings, Thomas (Marcia) Smith, Linda (Gary) Kundinger, Daniel (Delayn) Smith; Sister In Law, Ramona Smith; 28 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; a host of extended family and foster family; and her fur babies, Jack and Jimmy.

She was preceded in death by her Father, Billy T. Smith, Mother, Frances M. Smith, Infant Sister, Elizabeth Anne Smith, Brothers, Melvin "Frank" Smith and Billy Gene Smith.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 24 from 9:00 am till 10:00 am. At Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 am.

Mass of Christian Burial will start at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Topeka, Kansas.
Interment will follow at Topeka Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Sacred Heart/ St. Joseph Parish- Germanfest Fund or Helping Hands Humane Society.
