Dennis Seifert

June 16, 1926 — April 14, 2025

Topeka

Dennis Jonah Seifert, age 98, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 14, 2025 at Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka.

Dennis was born in Marion, Kansas on June 16, 1926 to Jonah and Elma Seifert, where he lived with his parents and three sisters, Vernetta, Anita and Faith.

Dennis attended school in Marion, Kansas and after graduating from high school joined the Navy. He was discharged as a Yeoman Third Class. After serving in the Navy he returned to Marion where he farmed with his parents.

In June of 1948 Dennis married Francis Mehlinger, two children were born to them, Teresa and Barry. After Francis’ death, Dennis married Donna Stenzel, and together they had Brad, Janice, Lisa (deceased) and Melinda. After their marriage ended, Dennis married Ada Wooster and Ada’s daughters Suzie, Linda (deceased) Jane, and Lorrie became his daughters.

Dennis’ working career included carpentry, farming, working in the parts departments of Cook Motor company and Marion Auto Supply. Dennis was employed as a welder at Donahue Manufacturing and then worked in their sales department traveling the US selling their agricultural trailers. Dennis was last employed in the sales department of Wichita Southeast Transit. He was also a gifted mechanic, being able to fix most any engine problem prior to vehicles becoming computerized.

Dennis was a talented singer. In High School he was selected to be in both the boy’s choral group and the mixed choral group. He was a soloist at weddings and funerals, sang regularly and directed the church choir at Strassburg Baptist church. He loved singing with others whether it was the men’s quartet, men’s chorus or mixed choir. He loved to hunt, bowl, golf and travel with Ada in their motor home.

Dennis loved being a member of Eastside Baptist Church – where he was loved and cared for consistently. One of the things that he deeply enjoyed and looked forward to, was his week-day coffee and lunch times with his friends that met at Burger King. As a family we are deeply grateful for the friendship and care that each of you showed our father!

Our dad enjoyed a long life and we look forward to seeing him again in heaven

Dennis is survived by his children Teresa (John Loney), Barry (Joy Seifert), Brad (Tami Seifert), Janice, Melinda, Susie (Rick Johnson), Jane Warkentine (Ron Rumsey), and Lorrie (Mike Dickey) and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
