Daniel Mathis

Daniel Wayne Mathis, 72, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away on August 23, 2026, in Topeka. Daniel was born on May 13, 1954, in Iola, Kansas, to Marvin and Jean Mathis. He grew up in Kansas and graduated from Emporia High School in 1972. Following graduation, he joined and proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1972 to 1974 until receiving a medical discharge. He was united in marriage with Rhonda and after 41 years together, they later divorced. From this union they had one daughter, Adrien. After his military service, Daniel began his career with IBP in Emporia, Kansas, where he worked for eight years. He later moved to Topeka and joined Montgomery Door Closer Service, where he dedicated 25 years of service. Daniel held several other positions before retiring in 2009.

Daniel married Patricia Gustin in 2022, she survives of the home. Daniel was known for his strong work ethic, loyalty, and appreciation for classic American craftsmanship. He had a lifelong passion for antique automobiles and motorcycles, particularly Fords and Harley-Davidsons. His collection included several Harley-Davidson motorcycles, a 1983 Ford Mustang, 1965 Ford Galaxies, a 1968 Ford F-100, a 1949 Ford 8N Tractor, a 1946 Ford Super Deluxe Coupe, a 1968 Ford Country Squire Station Wagon, and a 1965 Ford Mustang GT Fastback. Daniel enjoyed sharing his passion with fellow enthusiasts and was an active member of several automotive organizations, including Golden Spokes, the Contemporary Historical Vehicle Association (CHVA), and the Ford Performance Club. Daniel found great happiness in the collector car community.

Daniel was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Mathis; his mother, Jean Mathis; his sister, Debra Jean Mathis; and his former wife, Rhonda Mathis. He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia, her children, Jim (Lisa) Gustin, Bryan (Lakisha) Gustin and Lanette Hastert; his daughter, Adrien (Michael) Nedrow and granddaughter, Micayla, along with several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors also include his brothers, David (Cheryl) Mathis and John (Rhonda) Mathis as well as numerous extended family members.

Daniel will be remembered for his service to his country, his commitment to hard work, and his enduring love for antique cars and motorcycles. His legacy lives on through the memories he created, the friendships he cherished, and the enthusiasm he shared with fellow collectors and enthusiasts.
