Listen to Obituary

Conrad Max Fisher entered the presence of His Lord on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at FW Huston Medical Center in Winchester, KS, after a short illness. He was born in Topeka, KS on June 8, 1947, to Perl F. and Laura Josena (Miller) Fisher. He attended Seaman schools, graduating from Seaman High School in 1965. He then attended Baker University where he obtained a BA and graduated in 1969.

He served in the Kansas Army National Guard and at the end of that enlistment, joined the Army Reserves attaining the rank of Sergeant Firs Class. He worked several jobs over the years including Goodyear, a security company, a psychiatric aide at Menninger's, a cashier at a Prairie Band casino, a poll worker in Shawnee and Johnson counties, and janitor at Juli’s Coffee and Bistro. Most of his work life was spent as an Income Maintenance Worker and Social Worker in Olathe. Later he returned to Topeka to work for Disability Determination Services.

Conrad loved history and was proud of his Civil War ancestors. He was a member of Old Abe Camp #16, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War in Topeka and served as Camp Commander and many other camp positions. He was also the 22nd Department Commander of Kansas serving in 2024-2025. Conrad was involved in all activities of the order including cemetery workdays where he could be found scrubbing and raising headstones at many cemeteries around town. Conrad could also be considered a SOB-Son of Both-as he had a Union and Confederate ancestor that served. As such, he was also a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Colonels Lewis and Harrison Camp #1854 of Topeka.

A man of deep commitment and generous spirit, Conrad was known for his unwavering dedication to the Masonic principles and his tireless efforts to support others. Conrad was a 27-year member and current Trustee of Orient-Topeka Lodge No. 17, Topeka, Kansas. Prior to the merger that formed the current Lodge, he served Orient Lodge No. 51 as Worshipful Master in 1998, 2002, and 2012, exemplifying leadership and integrity throughout his tenure. He was a member of the Kaw Valley Scottish Rite since 1994, where he attained the rank of 32° Knight Commander of the Court of Honour in 2005. He served as Venerable Master of the Lodge of Perfection in 2008 and Master of Kadosh of the Consistory in 2003, demonstrating his deep commitment to the Rite’s teachings and fellowship. Conrad was also active in the Topeka York Rite, including Topeka Chapter No. 5 of Royal Arch Masons, Zabud Council No. 4 of Cryptic Masons, and Topeka Commandery No. 5 of Knights Templar. He was the Past Sovereign Master of Blarney Stone Council No. 360, Allied Masonic Degrees, and a member of Kansas Council No. 53 of Knight Masons. He was a nearly 20-year member of the Arab Shrine, where he proudly served in the Legion of Honor. A regular volunteer at Arab Shrine Bingo, Conrad was often the first to arrive and the last to leave—his huge heart and helping hands made him a cherished presence among his Shrine brothers. Conrad was also a proud member of the Order of the Sword of Bunker Hill, further reflecting his broad and meaningful engagement across the Masonic landscape and his love of History. Beyond titles and honors, Conrad will be remembered for his warmth, humility, and steadfast friendship. He was a man who lived the values he espoused—always ready to lend a hand, share a smile, and uplift those around him. His presence will be deeply missed by his Masonic brothers, his Shrine family, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Conrad was preceded in death by his father, mother, and sister Josena F (Fisher) Arquieta. He is survived by his niece, Elizabeth (Heble) Burnham (Kenneth Gwynne), nephew Bryan C Heble, grandniece Josena M Burnham, and grandnephew Trysten B Burnham, all of Houston, TX.

Because Conrad wanted a green burial, he will be placed in the ground in the green burial section of Topeka Cemetery on Wednesday, September 17. A memorial service will be held with military, Masonic, and SUVCW honors at the Garden Chapel at Topeka Cemetery, 1601 SE 10th St, Topeka, at 10 am on Saturday, October 18. Afterwards family and friends may gather at the Reception Center at Parker-Price funeral home, 245 NW Independence, Topeka.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children in care of the funeral home.
