Cheryl L. Busey, 78, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family

She was born August 25, 1947, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Edward Linford VanRiper and Ruth Pearl Patterson. She was a 1965 graduate of Lecompton Rural High School, Lecompton, KS

Cheryl grew up in Big Springs, KS and in her early years helped work her family's restaurant Home Cafe in Topeka where she later would meet her husband.

Cheryl was a full-time homemaker her entire life raising her four children and helping with many of her grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

She was baptized at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Topeka, KS

Cheryl married Alva Busey on September 18, 1965, in Big Springs, KS. They shared 55 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on September 17, 2020. Survivors include her daughters, Shelly (Rob) Pfeffer and Terri (Bob) Wells, both of Topeka, KS; her sons, Patrick (Kelly) Busey of Harveyville, KS and Craig (Kim) Busey of Topeka, KS; 10 grandchildren, Ashley, Brenna, Jessica, Bobbi, Dylan, Chelsea, Blake, Cooper, Jacob, Logan; and 12 great grandchildren, Jordan, Jayce, Ashton, Tason, Dallas, Owen, Noah, Kemper, Briley, Reid, Kyson, Lainey; and two sisters, Linda VanRiper of Perry, KS and Alice Bates of Buckeye,AZ; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Linford VanRiper, Ruth Pearl Chilcott, her stepfather, Justin “Gus” Chilcott and brother Richard Werts.

Cheryl had many passions in life. She adored her family and loved spending time with them making memories, listening to music and dancing. She found joy in crocheting and crafting, watching sports and cheering on her home teams, the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals and Kansas Jayhawks. She cherished camping trips, fishing and loved her coffee. She also loved to cook and bake. Her homemade noodles and pies were delicious and a favorite to many. She was lovingly known as the "country cook" by friends and family. Cheryl's warmth, kindness, and love for her family will be remembered by all who knew her.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Parker-Price & Davidson Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka.

Funeral Services will take place the following day at 11:00 am., Friday, November 7, 2025, at Parker-Price and Davidsons Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery, 5320 NW 35th St, Topeka, KS 66618
