Charles Edward Lewis, Jr.

Charles Edward Lewis Jr., 74, of Topeka, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. He passed of natural causes.

He was born February 18, 1952, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Charles Sr. and Betty (Day) Lewis. Growing up, Charles was known as a gear head. He built his first engine and hot rod, a 1955 Chevy, at the age of 15. He graduated from Seaman High School in 1970.

Charles dedicated bravely over 30 years to the City of Topeka Fire Department. He retired as Battalion Chief in 2005.

When his son, Michael, was born, Charles decided to give up the hot rod lifestyle until Michael was old enough to share the same passion. In his spare time, he built engines at Fidler’s. They also spent a lot of time fishing at Lake Perry and other hideaway fishing spots. In his younger days, he enjoyed roller skating and bowling. He also rebuilt and fixed up homes and rentals.

He leaves behind his son, Michael (Kristin) Lewis; his grandchildren, Heather, Zach, Maggie, Ethan and Natalie and two great grandchildren, Waylon and Ella. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary “Janeen” Lewis.

A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at Parker-Price & Davidson Funeral Home, 245 N.W. Independence Avenue, Topeka. His family will greet friends and relatives one hour prior to the service. In his honor, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 440 Clayton Ave, St. Louis, MO 63110. He will be laid to rest at Rochester Cemetery at a later date.
