Billy "Lu" Griffiths

April 25, 1960 — May 10, 2021

Billy "Lu" Griffiths, 61, passed away on Monday, May 10, 2021.

Lu was born on April 25, 1960 to William Griffiths and Lucille (Baxter) Griffiths in Holton, Kansas.

He graduated from Highland Park High School and then attended Highland Community College classes throughout his adulthood. Lu followed in his dad's footsteps and worked for City of Topeka/Shawnee County Parks and Recreation for 43 years as a Parks supervisor; although prior to that, he frequently rode around at work with his dad for years as a child. After retiring from Parks and Rec in 2018 he worked for Central Mechanical for a couple of years before he began his dream job as director for the Banner Creek Reservoir in Holton. Lu loved his family, cars, the outdoors, and was an avid hunter. One of his favorite activities was camping and sitting around a fire pit with his family and friends. He was a huge animal lover and loved playing with and training his dogs Berry, Bailey, Curly, and Junior. He was a share holder of the Green Bay Packers and loved watching the Pack as much as possible every fall. He also enjoyed coaching both softball and baseball. He was a blues music fan, and he and Teri loved going to concerts together. Lu was an active member of the K16 Quail Forever chapter and held multiple office positions throughout his membership.

Lu married Teri Schmidt on June 1, 1991 in Topeka, KS. He and Teri moved to Holton in 1991 where they took great pride in having 80 acres of land- full of cows, chickens, a goose, and a horse. Lu also took up bee keeping in recent years and cared for two bee hives on the farm. Teri kept Lu busy around the farm fixing up her ever-changing design ideas. Luckily for her, Lu was the handiest man in the tri-state area and could do anything Teri's mind could dream up.

Lu is survived by his loving wife, Teri Griffiths, his children- Andy Butler, Brady (Molley) Butler, Molly Griffiths (Craig Rowland), and Megan Griffiths, his siblings- William "Birk" Griffiths, Danny Griffiths, Dona Hartzell, Dana Gunn, H. Gede Frost, and one granddaughter- Scotlynn Butler.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, and his sister, Judy Hall.

Visitation will be June 3, 2021, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Parker-Price Funeral Home, 245 N.W. Independence Ave, Topeka.
Funeral Service will be June 4, 2021 starting at 11:00 am at Parker Price Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Valencia Cemetery.
