William ‘Bill’ Calvin Fox was born September 24, 1936 in Auburn Kansas and left this Earth on Wednesday September 10, 2025 just 2 weeks short of his 89th birthday. Bill was the cherished son of Wilbur and Edna (Gurss) Fox and grew up alongside his brother Dale (Lila) Fox.
Bill married Jane (Moser) Fox on a cold November 26th day in 1958 in Powhattan Kansas. Their union flourished over an impressive 66 years, blossoming into a loving family that included their two children, David Fox and Beth (Tom) Ortega. Throughout the years, their love produced an abundant legacy: four adoring grandchildren—Amanda (Kevin) Beebe, Mindy (Ross) Worthing, Christopher (Jena) Ortega, and Jordyn (Colt Shivers) Ortega—and 11 delightful great-grandchildren—Ella, Aurora, Emmett, Atlee, Madelyn, Raelynn, Ava, Damian, Eliza, Eli, and Ian. Each moment spent with them filled Bill’s heart with joy, and his pride in their accomplishments was immeasurable.
Bill served his country honorably in the United States Air Force, active from 1954 to 1958 and remaining on inactive duty until 1962. A mechanic by trade, he embraced various roles in his working life—from a Mac Tool Distributor to driving both a semi-truck and a cement truck, showcasing a remarkable dedication to his craft.
The essence of Bill’s character shone brightly through his involvement in his children’s lives. He actively led a 4-H group, taking his two children to spring shows and county fairs, while later continuing to support the program by sponsoring trophies, handing out belt buckles, purchasing US Savings Bonds and contributing to the purchase of livestock. Bill also spent many years serving on the Overbrook Fair Board, solidifying his commitment to the community.
Bill supported his grandchildren in all their endeavors. Bill took them or followed them to every spring show or county fair. He sat in the stands or in a lawn chair supporting them at every sporting event they were playing or cheering for.
An avid fisherman, Bill’s love for fly fishing was an integral part of his life. With an adventurous spirit, he taught himself the art of fly fishing simply by picking up a book. This newfound passion blossomed into shared moments with his grandson, marking the beginning of a cherished tradition between them. Together, they cast their lines, each tug of a fish connecting them through laughter and shared stories, creating memories that will be treasured forever. Bill even took the time to craft several fly rods, lovingly passing them down to his great-grandchildren, ensuring his love for the sport and fishing adventures would live on through them. Bill and Jane often found solace and joy in the serene landscapes of Bennett Springs, Missouri in Septembers where they fostered friendships and created priceless memories.
Bill’s greatest love, surpassed only by his beloved Jane, was his family. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were truly the light of his life. The twinkle in his eye whenever one of them entered the room spoke volumes about the depth of his love. Being a dad, daddy, and Pa filled his heart to the brim, and his family was his greatest pride.
Bill Fox will be remembered not only for his passions but for his unwavering support and boundless love. He leaves behind a legacy that resonates in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him, making him an everlasting presence in their lives. His family will carry forward the countless lessons he instilled in them, with every memory serving as a reminder of his gentle spirit and loving heart.
