Berniece Mae Chadwell

Berniece Mae Chadwell, 90, of Topeka passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026. She was born May 13, 1935 the daughter of Walter “Monroe” and Della “Fern” (Overstreet) Dye. She was raised and attended school in Callao, Missouri graduating with the class of 1953. After high school she moved to Ft. Madison, Iowa to work for the Santa Fe Railroad. She transferred in May 1954 with Santa Fe to Topeka and continued to work there until 1968. She and Jack owned and operated Capital City Conoco from 1966 until 1985.

Berniece joined Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in 1965 and was very active member of the church serving on various committees and volunteered many hours there. Mrs. Chadwell was a member of the United Methodist Women at her church. Berniece also volunteered at the Topeka Rescue Mission Food Pantry.

Berniece was married to Jack R. Chadwell September 29, 1957 in Callao, Missouri. Jack preceded her in death on November 25, 2006.

She is survived by her daughter Della McCarville and her husband Daniel of Orange, California and son Troy Chadwell and wife Jennifer of Topeka; grandchildren, Nicole Brandenburg, Mitchell (Nicole) Chadwell, Christine Myers, Kyan McCarville, Mara McCarville and Cade McCarville; great grandchildren, Rylee Chadwell and Dawsyn Myers. Other survivors include her brother, Howard Ray Dye and wife Jean of Kansas City, Kansas; and sister-in-law Cheryl Dye of Callao, Missouri.

Along with husband Jack and her parents, Berniece was preceded in death by her brother, Walter “Ronald” Chadwell in July of 1999.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm on Friday evening, January 9, 2025 at Parker-Price and Davidson Cremation and Funerals, 245 NW Independence, Topeka, Kansas 66608. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 4525 NW Button Road, Topeka, Kansas 66618.
