Barbara J. Hendrix, 91, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2023.
She was born September 19, 1932, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Alvin and Nellie (Clark) Henderson. She pursued and received her GED in her 50's.
Barbara was employed at Topeka High School 10 years. She was well known for her award-winning chili and cinnamon rolls. So much so that upon her retirement she was recognized on the front page of the Topeka Capital Journal. In the late seventies into the early eighties she operated a daycare for her grandchildren as well as other children.
Mrs. Hendrix was a member of the Salvation Army where she provided a ton of volunteer work. Barbara enjoyed cooking, specifically baking.
Barbara married Clarence Hendrix. He preceded her in death October 8, 2006. Survivors include son, Randy Hendrix, son, Ken Falter, daughter, Dorothy Lowhorn, ten grandchildren and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Kathy Johnson, daughter Connie Mangum, son, Danny Hendrix, brother, Robert Henderson and brother Gary Henderson. She is also survived by all of her friends through the Salvation Army.
The family will receive friends at 12:00 noon Wednesday, December 27, 2023 followed by a funeral ceremony at 1:00 pm at the Davidson Funeral Home, 1035 N. Kansas Avenue, Topeka. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery and Funeral Chapel, Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka Salvation Army. To view her funeral service live please click here
