Alfred Eugene Mannell

Alfred Eugene Mannell, 20, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.  He was born July 26, 2002, to Matthew B. and Debra (Pittman) Mannell.  He was a 2020 graduate of Seaman High School.  Alfred was a corrections officer at Topeka Correctional Facility and had been for over a year.

Alfred was musically inclined, starting violin in the 4 th grade and later picking up the guitar.  He played violin in the school orchestra from 4 th grade all the way through high school.  He formed a band his senior year of high school for the fundraiser Battle of the Bands.  He was a member of Pleasant Hill UMC and had been very active in the sound booth, the Praise Band, the Bell Choir, and had even sung in one Cantata.  He was active in Youth Group and went on youth mission trips.  He spent many volunteer hours packing food sacks for the needy.  Active in 4-H, Alfred excelled at rockets, robots, electric/electronic projects, photography, and giving demonstrations and speeches.  He earned the 4-H Key Award, 4-H’s highest honor.  He could ride a motorcycle.  He could pilot a plane and had been a volunteer at AirVenture in Oshkosh, WI three times.  He had worked in restaurants, in roadside assistance, and as a DJ.  He traveled extensively, visiting many states as well as China, England, France, Switzerland, Austria, Lichtenstein, Germany, Italy, and Greece.  He swam in both the Gulf of Mexico and the Aegean Sea.  He enjoyed cooking.  He was an avid video-gamer and D & D DM.  He was a fierce friend.  Family was important to him.

Alfred was preceded in death by his grandparents Alfred J. Mannell, Leonard E. and Laurene Pittman.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents, grandmother Joyce Mannell, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends.

Funeral for Alfred Mannell will be Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 4525 NW Button Rd, Topeka, KS  66618 with graveside service following at Rochester Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday, March 31, 2023, 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials to Pleasant Hill UMC.
