loha, Alan!
Alan E. Ukena, 62, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away on October 15, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of friendship, music, laughter, and a life enriched by the people and passions he loved.
Born in Topeka on October 2, 1964, Alan was the son of Gaylord and Ann (Seymour) Ukena. He attended Randolph Elementary School and graduated from Topeka High School in 1983. His love of music led him to Washburn University, where he studied voice. He later worked as the switchboard operator at Washburn before joining Hume Music, continuing his connection to the world of music that meant so much to him.
Alan found joy and community through the performing arts. He generously volunteered for many years with Topeka Civic Theatre and was also involved with the Topeka Symphony Chorus and the Topeka Opera Society. Whether lending his time, sharing his enthusiasm, or supporting a production, Alan was part of the vibrant artistic community that brings people together through music and theater.
Beyond the stage and the music, Alan loved to travel and experience the world. Of all his adventures, a family trip to Hawaii held a particularly special place in his heart. The islands left him with treasured memories and a love of the Hawaiian spirit—a fitting inspiration for celebrating his life.
Alan was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Gaylord and Ann. He leaves behind a close-knit circle of friends who became his family, along with several cousins. These friendships were a meaningful part of Alan’s life, reflecting the love, loyalty, and connections that make a life truly rich.
A special and heartfelt thank-you goes to Cathy and Linda for the care, kindness, and unwavering support they provided Alan over the past several years. Their devotion made a lasting difference in his life and will always be appreciated.
Alan’s Lūʻau Life
In keeping with Alan’s wishes, his life will be celebrated with a joyful gathering at Topeka Civic Theatre on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Come ready to share stories, remember favorite moments, and celebrate the music, friendships, and adventures that made Alan who he was.
