Bennett Brower, 87, of Topeka passed away on Friday, February 10, 2017. He was born February 26, 1929 at Centralia, Kansas the son of Bruce and Margaret Searing Brower. He was raised at Centralia and graduated from high school there in 1947. At the age of 18, Bennett served as the Principal at Havensville, Kansas. He enlisted in the army and served in the Korean War. After returning to Kansas he attended Emporia State Teachers College and was a substitute Principal at St. George. After moving to Topeka he taught at Crestview Elementary School. Then served as Principal at Van Buran, Dawson, Linn, Shaner, Crestview and Potwin all in Topeka USD #501. He retired in 1990.
Bennett was a member of First Lutheran Church, Sunrise Optimist, American Legion Post #400, The Artists Association. He volunteered at Ronald McDonald House and the Festival of Trees.
On June 3, 1956 he was married to Shirley Griffiths at Salem Lutheran Church south of Axtell.
Survivors include his wife Shirley of Topeka; daughter, Brenda Brower of Oskaloosa; sister, Opal Nixon of Manhattan; sisters-in-law, Julia Brower of Frankfort and Twila Griffiths of Freemont, NE and his brother-in-law, Dr. D.D. Griffiths of Holton.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl Brower in 1973; his son, Robert Brower in 2002; brothers, Bill, Bob, Ray and Dick Brower; a sister, Betty Meyer;brother-in-law, Robert Griffiths .
Funeral Services will be held at First Lutheran Church, 1234 SW Fairlawn on Wednesday, February 15th at 11:00 am. Interment will be held at the Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Marshall County on Wednesday, February 15th at 3:00 pm. The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm on Tuesday, February 14th at Davidson Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church, American Cancer Association or to Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund in care of Davidson Funeral Home.
