Corinne Ruth O’Neal passed away at Autumn Hill, Riley, Ks on November 8, 2016. Corinne was born April 3, 1929 in Crawford County, Kansas near McCune the oldest of three children to Ralph and Madge Long. She attended Groundhog Rural School, a small one room schoolhouse where she excelled as an A student throughout her years there. She finished high school at Parsons graduating in the Class of 1946. She then attended Kansas State Teachers College at Pittsburg where she received her degree in education. She would later receive her Master’s Degree from Kansas State University.
She married David Daniel O’Neal on October 17, 1949. He preceded her in death on June 13, 1994.
She followed her husband in early marriage to Maryland where he was serving in the United States Navy. Upon returning to Kansas he attended Kansas State Teachers College at Pittsburg. Corinne was an educator for over 15 years, including primary teacher and language tutor for USD 485 in Junction city between 1975 and 1989. Corinne loved nature; she fed turtles, squirrels, birds, skunks, raccoons, possums and deer from her front and back porches. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, reading and spending time with her family, and served as a hospice volunteer in Junction City after retirement.
Her family was her life. She had two sons and one daughter, David O’Neal and wife Marlene of Manhattan; Daniel O’Neal and wife Marcia of Wakefield, and her late adopted daughter, Peggy Lynn O’Neal-Lay and her husband Larry of Kyle Texas. Peggy preceded her mom at age 49 in 2014.
Grandchildren and great grandchildren include , David Jacob O’Neal and wife Melissa of Manhattan and their two children, Sophia and Jaxon; Brian O’Neal and wife Angela of Lincoln, NE and their two children, Liam and Maggie; great grandson Matthew Mitchell also son of Brian O'Neal; Sarah Rogers and husband Matt of Castle Rock, CO and their daughter Addysen; Patrick O’Neal and wife Christy of Manhattan and their two boys, Isaac and Sam; Heather Kimery and husband Truman of Searspoint, Maine and their children, Logan, Lilly, Calliope and Corbin; Abigail, Danielle Pham and husband Huy of Denver, CO and their children, Vida and August; Bethany Callahan and husband Mike of Ft. Riley, and their children, Rhapsody and Harmony. Also surviving is her sister, Betty Schierenberg and husband Fred of Indianapolis, IN. Her brother, Larry Long of McCune passed away in 2015.
Graveside services will be held at the Sherman City Cemetery, Cherokee County, Kansas on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.
Family will receive friends for a visitation on Monday, November 14, 2016 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Chapel at Junction City, Ks.
