Skylar Callahan

November 4, 1997 — October 30, 2016

Skylar was born November 4, 1997 in Leavenworth Kansas and passed from a motor vehicle accident on October 30th 2016. He was born Skylar Bastion Haynes but was blessed into the Callahan family in the year 2005 with the adoption being finalized on March 5th 2007 becoming Skyler Lewis Callahan named after his paternal grandfather who proceeded him death on July 4th 2012 also from a motor vehicle accident. He was a loved little brother as well as a big brother. He became a part of the Callahan family from the sand of the baseball field, playing for Lloyd Callahan on the Grantville Hornets team. No one knew at the time that, that man would embrace him as his son a few short years later. It was easy to fall head over heels in love with the blue-eyed angelic boy he was at 6 and even easier to embrace him as the compassionate young man he became. He attended Perry-Lecompton Schools until the end of his Freshman year. He continued his high school career at Jefferson West High School his Sophmore year and he was immediately accepted. He was loved by his peers and earned the respect of his educators. He found a second family on the Jefferson West Tiger's baseball team. He loved baseball. You weren't just a teammate, you were family. Skylar excelled on the field both pitching and playing 3rd base. Skylar would want to be remembered as having lived his life too the fullest. He left no stone unturned. He worked for Five Star Masonry out of Meriden Kansas after high school. He spoke well of the team he worked with. Skylar could be found fishing with his buddies or getting stuck in the mud on any given summer day. He could be seen wearing his cowboy boots and western belt buckle, he was a cowboy at heart. His favorite movie was 8 Seconds. It's unfortunate that his life was cut short mimicking the life of the movie's hero Lane Frost. Skylar was proceeded by his grandmother Karolin Smith in Aug of 2012. He leaves behind his father Lloyd Callahan and mother Genoveva Callahan as well as four brothers, Jacob , Christopher, Alexis and his wife Megan and younger brother Branden Callahan. Condolences should also be extended to his 3 biological brothers and 2 sisters. It would be best to remember the vitality of Skylar's life by catching a local baseball game on a warm summer night and closing your eyes to listen to the chatter and the cheers. By listening to the sound the ball makes as it pops into the catcher's glove or soars across the infield. His memory can be kept alive by volunteering for your local youth organization and keeping or youth safe and their dreams alive.
